Now doing reviews ain't my bag, but for some reasonEd Mickalski and Karen King asked me to review their baby.
I mean their poetry Collaboration and new book hot off the press and available now, from any good bookstore so long as it is Amazon.
The Book is titled A Fantasy of Love and first things first this is no flimsy stick and run job made from cheap paper and spit, this is a great looking book well put together sturdy spine strong white paper topped with clean well spaced ink, which makes reading easy, no squinting required. It is far bigger than I expected 181 pages from cover to cover jam packed with poems. I think an index list would have been handy, but I am just being picky maybe an idea for volume Two.
Karen King not only supplied poems but also the photographs in the opening pages and lovely they are too. But it the poems that are important or it's just a book of words, Having the read it for a few days I have only just scratched the surface of the poetry inside. The cover picture off rolling waves I get, as these poems roll into each other naturally like a deep wave of emotion. If I did the cover I would have opted for a boiling kettle, if you are into romance or the tribulations of love then this book is for you,
Why the kettle you ask, why because these poems are full of love and emotion from tenderness to the very sensual Some even I would describe as Steamy, my glasses nearly misted over and I needed a cup of tea after reading.
Cup of tea over, I delved deeper into this now not too secret love affair, innuendo and intimacy merge as one like lovers.
Locked together in a poem laid bare in words. It draws you in as a voyeur it lets you feel that bond that poetry can build a bridge to unite two free spirits, just as it highlights the realities of distance and the longing to be touched but never to be held, this book carries elation and longing in equal measure, even with a cursory scan you can't help but be impressed by these two poets and the bond they share. It is the readers preferences to read a book cover to cover, but I preferred to randomomly flick to a page like a lucky dip and see what prize of a poem awaited me and there really is some great surprises in Fantasy of Love
As I said I won't pick or review my favorite poem this is a short hit the ground running review and this book really is packed with fantastic poems it deserves a better poet than I to give this collection a more in depth review that merits it's honesty. I have been as forthright as I can be and if you my know comments on other people's poems on various sites then you know I say what I mean.
In short this is a well thought out book not made on a poet's whim or some insanity of vanity this is more. This is almost lost lovers crying to be heard if only to each other. It is a deep and meaningful collaboration and I wish Ed and Karen every success for their new book, best wishes,
